i never heard the 3803, so can't compare the performance. I do know that the 3805 has the Dlink connector allowing you to connect the 5900 directly to it using only 1 cable to output CD, HDCD, DVD, DVD-A, and shortly SACD!.

Been very happy with the 3805 so far.... Far and away better than the Sony ES receivers i have owned (and now sold!) in the past.
