In Reply to: Ernest Hollings, the lead ogre, is a Dem. The FCC guy leading the way is a Dem. Learn to live with it. nt posted by clarkjohnsen on October 14, 2004 at 11:08:31:
Clark, I am a Republican, and worked on numerous campaigns to get Republicans elected. But to suggest that the FCC, which is chaired by a Republican, appointed by a Republican, which reports directly to a Republican Congress in which Republicans control the committees, and in a Federal Government in which the three branches of government are controlled by Republicans, has become the pawns of Hollings is wrong. Hollings must wield more power than the committee chairs, the majority of congress, and the White House. The fact is that if Republican congressman and George Bush were inclined to end this lunacy, the would do so. Best case is that they are ambivalent, worst case is complicit. If the Republicans were inclined to end this lunacy, they would. The fact that they do not is, to me, evidence of their complicity. They are all chasing the same campaign dollars. It is no wonder that corporations routinely give money to both parties. You response is akin to entirely blaming the children for wrecking the house while the parents sit around and watch. I say that both need to be taken to the woodshed on this issue.

While I respect your analysis, I'll refer you to a post by Bruce a coupla months ago that puts the locus of blame squarely on the Dems. (You do the search!)But *of course* they're all in it together!
I do not know who "Bruce" is. I do know that the buck stops somewhere, at least that people always tell me, and that place is usually with the people at the top. Which is where the Republicans currently are. Certainly, the situation would be no different if the Democrats controlled. But it is unfair for "Bruce", or anyone, to place the blame with the Democrats.Reminds me of GATT and NAFTA. Dems. now complain about jobs going to Mexico, blame Republicans, but never mention that Clinton advocated and signed the bills. Well, that is where the buck stops.
Sorry, my mind slipped and I thought we were Outside, where Bruce is the moderator. He's also a DC communications lawyer and I think knows more whereof he speaks than either of us. I'll try to find that for you.
