Video Asylum

I have a DVD recorder/player on my PC, will I be able record on either DVD+RW/DVD-RW then play it on my home theater DVD player. I am just not sure what my PC supports via formats. I Can alway purchase a new DVD player that supports both formats, the problem is how am I to know what format my PC accepts.????
