-Adire Rava, about $430 delivered within the US, 12" driver, 250 watt amp. They also sell a ported version that might work better for HT-PartsExpress' Dayton line. You have to do a little assembly, but supposedly the sound quality is excellent for the $$$. 10, 12, & 15" sizes
-Hsu VTF-2 or 3. Very highly regarded for thei versatility between music & HT, affordable, lots of output for size
-SVS -- if you don't mind the "water heater" style of subs, this cylinder might be right for you. The entry-level powered model runs about $550 US I believe.
Paradigm and Definitive Technology, both Canadian firms, make decent models in this price range as well.
Good luck and happy hunting!

anyone have any experience with this sub or have read any reviews?
The 12" almost certainly goes both louder & deeper, with a bit more overhang and slowness, while the 15" sounds like a monster.Must I do ALL the work for you? ;-)
i ve moved into new apt (listening room size:35x25x10) and i am trying to cure a thinness in my system that wasnt there before. i am also wanting to incorporate my 2 channel into ht. never had considered a sub before. i also dont want to annoy the above people too much. i want low freq, and less concerned with loudness. i do not need nor desire to rattle the windows, much. so bass quality is of most importance. i am also looking to increase my mains power source. 85wpc just doesnt seem enough. maybe with 200wpc, i might be able to get away without a sub altogether but maybe not, esp with movies. i thought i had spent my audio budget and was looking to save for a nice tv. but wont until satisfied first with sound. i'm doing all the reading i can, but i have some variables i have to try and eliminate....thanks again!
