So the problem exsists with one of the Avance Elipson 680's (4 ohm)at the center position? NO, Epsilons never shut down
If the mains are not shutting down with the normal configuration, I'd think the impedence is not the issue here, as they are also rated @ 4 ohms. I agree
A cheap test with a coax replacing the optical could reveal a problem with the optical connection. Have you tried this? No, are you suggesting that the optical cable or circuitry for that optical connection may be at fault?
Does the H/K have a discrete center channel volume control? NO If so, where is this set?
Which input terminals are you using on the center? The "regular" center channel outs (using the HK's amp) .. I've also used a seperate tube amp to power the ctr channel with no success
What guage is the center channel speaker wire and how far of a run is it? Don't know exact guage but it's Monster XP® Clear Jacket - Compact Speaker Cable - about 3 foot run.

Sorry I missed your reply to my questions until today, as I had seen your newer post reguarding a new reciever.
Yes, I think you should at least try the digital coax swap. I've heard of strange instances were some fideling has revealed a problem.
I had also seen on the M&K www. that your center channel has a choice of 2 *inputs* ; regular and maximum output. Which configuration are you using?
It is however, sounding like that center is the rat in the kitchen. Especially since the problem doesn't happen with one of the Avance Elipson 680's at the center position. Have you tried the M&K in the L or R *main* postions?
