What are you using, as to play-back means?...to judge sound quality and levels...... the TV's speakers?

Hi. I'm using a TV hooked up to home-theater speakers. It's not the best system in the world, but it works okay. And the sound quality on the tape is pretty good, but you have to turn the volume up so far that there's a lot of hiss. I think you're probably right about using a stereo VCR. I just looked on ebay, and they have some good ones for less than $50. Thanks.
