For recordable DVDs, video quality will, of course, depend on the source.
single-layer DVD
DVD quality = 1 hr
VHS quality = 2 hrs
dual-layer DVD
DVD quality = 2 hrs
VHS quality = 4 hrs
times are approximate, check your local listings
