Hi: Nothing new in that area. Format wars started from the beginning of record sound & pictures. It just keeps happening over & over again. It is wise to wait it out & see what happens. But in my mind, the studios risk killing off both formats because too few will pay for them to make them viable.
DVD was a huge success, and quickly, because there were no competing formats.Lesson NOT learned. Scores of years of technology licensing are at stake, so neither side is prepared to give in on HD.
The other reason that DVD was a success was that the price for both the players & media fell quickly. Heck you can pick up movies for under $10 & players for under $50! No such chance for the High Definition DVD formats. Besides who has a HiDef TV? Relatively few people is my guess. For any format to succed it MUST be used by large numbers.
