If both units have HDMI, then go HDMI for best PQ, no contest. This is the latest and it "should" become the standard connector for sending and receiving video signal.If one unit has DVI and the other HDMI, you can even get cables with DVI at one end and HDMI at the other.

The only real advantage of HDMI is that it includes the digital audio signal.... and in most cases you don't need it because for a home theater setup you will run the audio from the DVD player into a processor or A/V receiver. I see HDMI as a cabling / connection convenience more than a big step up in technology for picture quality.
