Can't afford the giant screens/HDTV stuff. However, I've been looking around on-line and I see a Toshiba 35" that I am gonna go look at sometime this week. There is nothing wrong with the Zenith...I just want a screen a bit bigger and 35-36" would be perfect for my living room. I'm not interested in the "flat-screens",
just a conventional 35" with a great picture.I know the Sony Triniton sets are supposed to be better....but is the Toshiba a good compromise? I'm assuming the Toshiba set will have a much better picture than the Zenith set I have(The Zenith is only 4 years old).
I've set myself a limit of $550.00.....can't get a Sony 35" for less than $600.00 (legally ,that is)
I know, I know....I'll see for myself when I go into the store, but I could be looking at a "doctored" picture & not know it.
Thanks in advance & Happy New year

both get good reviews. my hitachi is several yrs old but looks great.
Spend some time adjusting the sets yourself. Hopefully you can get the two right beside each other and hooked up to the same source. Change the contrast, etc until you like it, then try the next one. That said, my 35" entry model Sony looks better than my brother-in-laws 35" entry Toshiba. He even asked me to tweak his; I couldn't get it to look as good as mine.
I think you have offered good suggestions...I would like to point out that there seems to be flucuations in quality on a year to year basis. I got a similar comment from a high end store I trust...the owner basically said, THIS year the Brand X, 32 inch is great, last year it was the Brand Y.
Very true. Both his and my TV are probably 3-4 years old now (although I think I've still seen mine in stores). He bought his a week after mine.... hmm... wonder why. :) He thought he had me beat a month or so ago when I was at his house showing me his new 56" widescreen.... little did he know that I already had a PJ with an 84" screen. teehee
In North America, I find the direct view Sony's are not worth the extra money vs a Toshiba. Toshiba makes decent TVs & I perfer the color balance compared to a Sony.
