Thanks, Abe.The TV is plugged into a Monster power conditioner, as is the cable box.
The main reason I wanted to leave the television in a 'standby' mode--at least during the day--is because I started using the cable company's music channels as a music source for my receiver. Surprisingly, there are very good jazz, blues, and classical channels--although the fidelity, of course, isn't on a par with a decent FM tuner connected to an antenna. Anyway, I find myself wanting to check the titles and artists (because there's only music, no announcers) and to do this I have to keep turning the TV on.
But you're probably right. Even though for all intents and purposes the TV seems to be dead to the world (except for the lit red light) when I turn the cable box off, I probably should turn it off also.
Thanks again.

A toasty set is a happy set. I'd leave it on. My Sammy DLP is always in the standby mode as you call it. At least my little red diode is always on. That little red diode/standby is burning one watt (if at all) of electric and is not doing a darn thing to your set. Warm electronics are happy electronics. You ain't doing nuttin do that tube of yours. peace, warren
