What I'm getting is when there are shading in the picture it looks like the shading moves around.Like on the dvds of Six Feet Under if the sceen is down in the basement and the angle shoots tward the washer aand dryer under the brick arch. The back wall shading will fluctuate.
I'm useing the HDMI to the Panny 34" wide screen. The DVD S97 is in upsample mode to 1080i.
Follow Ups:
What you are probably seeing are the afffects of the Faroudja 23xx deinterlacing, better known as the macroblocking bug. Scan down a bit in this forum (look for "macroblocking") for more info and some links. Use the player via the analog component outputs in interlaced mode and the problem should go away. Not ideal, but it's the only way around the bug.
I thought the 97 was limited to 480p with analog.
That's why I said 480i via an analog output should eliminate the affects of the Faroudja processing. Every output from the HDMI port and the 480p analog output (via the component output) uses the Faroudja processing and is subject to the macroblocking bug (to some extent).I can't remember if the S97's HDMI port will allow 480i, but even if it does the display must be able to handle a 480i digital input (and most can't).
That's why i kept the Denon 5900, even though it definetly exhibits the macroblocking (macro-annoying) bug.... I ended up buying an iScan HD from DVDO and connected the 5900 via the component outs at 480i and let the DVDO do the scaling to 720p.later, when i can afford to, i will upgrade them to SDI..... but, quite frankly, the image is stunning now and may leave well-enough alone.
