If i remember i think DVDRW can be re edited but DVDR has a bit of a problem but it may also depend on machine and model.

I own 2 dvd recorders and the LITEON unit is by far the best.
It is easy peasy to use and the audio quality from VHS is amazing.
The philips is not reccomended,They admitted that there machines have a high failure rate (probably explains why they are so cheap thesedays).?
