I have a Pioneer rear CRT projection HDTV, Elite.
I want to disconnect the little speakers on the front because there is a great deal of white-noise emanating from them.
When I disconnect them the monitor will not power up. I hear high voltage kick in and then it clicks back to stand by.
Silly.
Over the telephone, Pioneer technician says these are part of the boot/check sequence and they MUST be connected.
Logic tells me that I can just load the circuit with a resistor and all will be well.
The Pioneer technician says "No, this will not work. This will destroy your HDTV."
There are no other devices in line from the audio amp board to the drivers.
It must just check for continuity from the two wires. Right?
So is to safe for me to replace the speakers with resistors of the same Ohm?
Follow Ups:
Yes, I know, you are bothered by so called white noise. If you disable speakers in setup mode it will still have this same noise or hiss.
You need to disconnect the speakers as you mentioned. But what dummy designed TV to look for speakers before outputs the audio out? So if your speaker blows you cannot just use audio out? I suggest sell this junk and buy something that is not designed by "dady engineer". Anyway...
You should be OK to disconnect speakers and add resistors of same R valule e.g. 8 Ohm. Since you will not use them at all (speakers) resistors may be of low power, just couple of Wats (I hope stupido engineer did not get that stupido).
And as for that technician you talked to... you did not talk to a technician (I guaraty). The person may be right in their statement, but I would connect resitors and see what happens.
You may have tried this but isn't there an item on the setup menu for the TV which turns OFF the speakers? Most have such an option.Kal
access the MENU, then > SETUP > SYSTEM IN/OUT > SPEAKERS > then a choice of NORMAL, CENTER IN, and OFF.
