The Cary DACs need 200 hours, some dealers say 400 hours, to fully break in. My stand alone CDp certainly did. When fully broken in, my Cary 303 completely blew away my Arcam, which was a nice piece of gear. I bet your pre/pro has a ways to go yet if you're only at 40 hours.I love AVSforum for video info - it's the best on the web. But it's not a good place to go for info on music making machines. Most of 'em have no-to-limited experience with high end gear so they've never heard the difference between that and mass market/mid-fi. I doubt most of 'em care.
I always chuckle to myself when I read posts from guys buying 10K displays and HTIAB.

Thats good to hear regarding the Cary DAC break in. I need to find out if the DAC on the Cary is the same as that which they use on the CDPs. I've hooked it up to my iTunes based music server of Apple Lossless music and it sounds almost as good as my Arcam CD93t... If it gets better with time, I may have to just give up the CD93t and invest in something else.Regarding AVS.. yeah, I like the forum for info - just a wealth of it. Too much sometimes. But I feel like I'm talking a different language when the topics turn to anything relating to high end audio.
