I have personally found the D-ILA projectors to be the best of the digital lot. Pricey (very pricey) but true colors and the least inter-pixel gap (pixelation). As for CRTs, they are a true PITA but the later units that were liquid cooled with "automatic" adjustment are amazing, lost cause though they have become.
I have a friend with a Zenith 900. I go to his place occasionally to view a movie. It makes my digital set-up look very artificial.
But, I have HT setup for much less money and no fuss. And as my prime passion is music (particularly analogue classical music) I already have one passion that is a true PITA. And one is enough.
BTW, with a good player, Laserdiscs look much better on a CRT than on a digital projector, so if someone still has a large Laser collection, CRTs (either front view or projector) are worth a look. Unfortunately, artifacts on DVD are also more obvious on CRTs, so . . . TINSTAFL applies.
