  Well over 90% of DVDs are anamorphic, meaning that you would watch them in the TV's "Full" mode, which may be called other thingsd based on the manufacturer.

  The LCD projector (the one that I have anyway) does not do this at all, as it has a built in scaler that will allow me to scale down the viewing area according to the movie anamorphic scale ratio.

  BTW, most if not all LCD and DLP projectors do come with built in scaler the only thing that you have to watch for is how well it does its scaling job I supposed the upper end models does it better than some lower end ones..
