I am on the wire about the Sony CRT 34XBR960 or the 34HS420. These look almost the same and have mostly the same features. Anyone know, other than the onboard HD tuner, if these are the same?I am mostly thinking picture quality. I don't care about a plug or two.
There is also the XS955 but it is the same price as the XBR (as of last week). So why one over the other?

The XBR have better chassis and components (3D Comb filter, etc).

Music is Emotion
The XBR series is Sony's top of the line series and I believe they are manufactured in Japan. The lower level sets are made in Mexico.
From what I've read over on AVS Forum, the 34" XBR960 and XS955 CRT tubes are the same and are made in Japan. Final assembly of these TV sets is done in Mexico. Quality control on the XBR960 appears to be subpar based on numerous reviews (bad tuners, bad power supplys, sometimes severe geometry and color spotting problems). I don't know if the 34" XS955 has been nearly as problematic.Mr. Spindlelegs
