Please forgive if this is a well-known problem, but I've searched the archives for a couple of hours without finding a solution.Last night I watched "Dial M For Murder", a classic Hitchcock movie using a just-purchased Philips 963SA-->Pioneer 1014 HT reciever--> Philips HDTV (two years old, 34" flat screen tube, I can't remember the model number). Watching the progressive scan component video signal, I had bright blue faces... obviously wrong color. Watching the composite video signal straight to the TV gave normal color. I checked that all component video cables were in the correct jacks.
Looking at other movies (Matrix, Basic Instinct) in progressive scan component video, the color was normal (As above, the configuration was Philips 963SA--> Pioneer 1014 HT reciever--> Philips HDTV). I think the fact that these movies gave normal color rules out "bad gun", "bad cable", and other "bad equipment or wire" arguments.
Have I got some setup option wrong? Any ideas?
Follow Ups:
are you sure you have the input setup as Component and *NOT* RGB. on my panny this is selectable in the setup menus.... this sort of thing can happen if your TV thinks it's RGB and not Component....
Sam,
I think so... I don't remember seeing an RBG option in the Philips menus, but I'll be sure to check.Any idea why I'm getting different behavior for different movies?
could be the DVD player's component output.....
Could be, but I still don't understand how a bad component output could give correct color for one movie and bad color for another.I am quick to admit that I don't know a whole lot about video, but this seems very strange.
Last night I removed the HT processor from the video chain, so I now have:
Philips 963SA(component out)--> Philips HDTV (component in) and still have blue faces on Dial M for Murder, but good color with newer movies.
