Laserdiscs are still great for getting good quality transfers of unscrewed-with movies. A few are actually superior, video-wise, to their DVD counterparts, particularly for earlier DVD's with a lot of compression artifacts.

Of course, a good LD player is going to cost a lot more than a good DVD player.
