I have been thinking about upgrading my video system these last 3-4 weeks. I even looked around at new 50" TVs, since mine was a few years old, and I was curious to see what was new. Right now, I have Hitachi 50" CRT RPTV, and from what I've seen, it is still as good or better than most out there (PQ-wise), except for the best plasmas. I does lack upconverting and any digital input.
Not wanting to spend $4K-$5k on a new set, I decided to look into my source. I did research on DVD players, especially upconverting ones. My set will take 1080i (but not 720p or 1080p), so I had to find a player that upconverted through the component out and was all region. That cut out the oppo. Snooping around, I deceded to try the Neuneo HVD 2081. This is an all region player, that upconverts to 1080p (if your set will take it), or in my case 1080i.
Set-up was a snap, the hardest part was putting batteries in the remote. How does it look? Stupendous. Color and tones are very good (haven't checked DVE yet). Theres alot more detailthan before, and people's faces have a *texture* they didn't have before. Everything is more 3 demensional. The picture is smoother too. When I popped in the Fifth Element (superbit), I was shocked. I won't bore you with all the details, but lets just say I am impressed.
This player will also play WMVHD-DVDs and HVDs(DVDs made at 720p). I have several of each on order, so we'll see.
Gripes? Just one-while the remote is extremely versatile and usefull, it is a bit cheesey, and appears to have been made with midgets in mind.
If your TV doesn't upconvert, or have DVI/HDMI inputs, but will take hi def signal, I highly recomend this player.

Have you put it through DVE yet? Do you still like it?
My experiences:
After reviewing number of posts, I decided to purchase 2081. My experience is not good and would like to everyone to use caution. I plan to use it with Samsung's new 1080i DLP TV. While the video is excellent, I had problems:
a. Audio through HDMI had problems. It broke up as if it had problems synchronizing. Even after applying patches, it did not work. This would have been ok as analog audio was functional.
b. The player was extremely sensitive to scratches or any forms of imperfection. DVDs that would play in my $50 DVD player had problems. It could not recover and routinely just went back to the start of the DVD. I tried brand new, I mean brand new DVDs. Most worked but not all. It tried to skip "bad" bits or showed jerky motion.I would not recommend this version unless you are willing to spend a lot of time or you really want PAL/NTSC/region free players.
