Just out of curiousity, has anyone auditioned or own either the Theta Dreadnaught or the Pass X5? I'm curious about how these sound for both theater and audio.I'll probably be splitting up my audio and HT systems soon and will be looking for a 5-channel HT amp, however I'd like for it to have good audiophile sound as well (just not super-high-end-audio sound).
I'll be mating these to a Sony DVP-S7000 DVD player, Lexicon DC-1 DAC/pre and probably 4 Dynaudio Aries speakers (kits) with a kit center. The sub will have to wait until I'm out of an apartment. I get enough bass as it is (although I do love the kick in the pants you get with a good sub).
My current champion is probably the Bryston 9B-ST, but I'm open for other options.
Thanks,
Shawn Harvey
It depends on your budget. IIRC, the Theta Dreadnaught sells for
US$1750/channel, so you're looking at US$8750 for 5 channels of
amplification. If you're planning on going that high, you could consider a couple of
other options too:1) EAD Theatermaster 2000 at US$5K
2) Sonic Frontiers Channel 5 at US$5K
3) Krell KAV 5000 at US$5000
I'm not trying to dissuade you from the Bryston, I own Bryston gear
myself, just giving you a few more suggestions that you might want to
listen to before making your final decision.Best of luck to you, and enjoy whatever you end up with :-)
The Bryston 9BST is one the best 5 channel amplifiers reguardless of money.
If you'd like some other recomendations try:
Sunfire Cinema Grand,Cinepro 3k6II or ATI 2505. All good choices.

I am the proud owner of a 9BST and don't think you can go wrong with it. I've heard that the Dreadnaught isn't quite as free from colorations, but I haven't heard it myself and so can't comment.
