I have a Philips DVDR75 which does a credible job of downloading and creating DVD+RW's of my child's piano recital Hi8 videos and does OK with TV videos of fave programs.I tried to play these DVD's on my Cyberhome 300 and cheap Magnavox all in one TV, which should do it. The 300 clearly states in the manual that DVD+R and +RW should play. Instead, the program is visible but not clear and has pixels as if I did not do something, like "finalizing".
Unfortunately, the "finalizing" step is for +R not +RW and there is no proviso for this in the instruction manual.
Interestingly, on the better DVD players (Pioneer Elite DV-47Ai), they work fine.
Follow Ups:
had similar problem basically the way to go with dvd-recordables as with cd-r's is to create finalized dvd-r's. not( -rw's +rw's)
Most new dvd players will play these ..pixilization probs are artifacts of incompatibility.......My two sony RDR-GX-7 recorders dvd-r's will play in most dvd players...
Does this also apply to DVD+R not +RW? This is what the Philips plays and records, as far as I can tell. Thanks for your help.
DVD+R is the most universally dvd playback
format next to dvd-r's but dvd-r still maintains the highest level of compatibility....... search manufacturer's
lists of brands & format acceptance..ALSO: some brands of dvd-r blanks aren't manufactured as well as others..
IE: stick with TDK's,Maxell's,Fuji's etc.
memorex's & such have issues of their own
even with cd-r blanks.......
Of cheapo stuff...... stay clear!
