I'm looking for an antenna to mount in the attic for picking up over the air HD broadcasts. I saw a 50" Radio Shack antenna with 18 gangs. It doesn't say anything about HD. Will this or any good antenna work to pick up HD broadcasts?I see a number of sleek looking indoor/outdoor amplified antennas advertising 1080i. Are these better or just cool looking and expensive?

Thanks everyone for your advice. It is well taken.
That site will get you pointing in the right direction as far as where all the OTA digital channels are. Also, AVS forums have a section where local broadcasters/and their customers carry their own users thread, according to the area they live. This is absolutely the best way to get an OTA system hooked up, because you benefit from people in your own area.
Charlotte NC?
My experience:The ubiquitous Zenith indoor antenna works well if you're relatively close (perhaps less than 15 miles?) to the transmitters and free of obstacles, preferably on a high rise; it didn't work in our house.
Have you visited the antennaweb site? You can get a rec for an antenna type based on your location relative to broadcasters. A good UHF antenna should work. Don't fall for the hype of an "HDTV antenna"; that's a bit like "digital-ready speakers" after CDs came out.Regards -- Gerard
This is a good reference site.
Thanks.
I have the same question you have! I don't have any experience to share, but you might check the link below for starters. I found it as an advertisement over at www.avsforum.com.Joe might be able to provide a specific link to "long-winded" threads discussing relevant topics at www.avsforum. Or better yet, go over and search.
all the best, townsend
These seem like excellent antennas. Perticularily the high gain multidirectional ones as I am near the broadcasting anntenas, but they are in opposite directions.
