My receiver is currently kaput. I have lots of power amps, though. I'd like to find a DVD/CD integrated player with built in surround processing, and pre-amp outputs, so I can wire the DVD's audio output to the amps directly, and CONTROL THE VOLUME OF ALL THE CHANNELS WITH THE DVD UNIT ONLY. That's the part I'm not sure about. Is there such a product? SACD would be nice.
Follow Ups:
Consider your PC if you can install a DVD drive. You may already have a DD5.1 capable soundcard. There are video cards with DVI and/or component video. You may end up doing some shopping for quieter fans and PS units, but these are not terribly expensive. The only thing you miss will be SACD since I don't think there are ANY optical drives available for PCs that handle this.
This idea may not be of interest to you but it is an option to consider.

The Meitner Switchman looks interesting...what!? $8,000!?!?I figured I would pay the price of a single SACD player, plus the preamp/surround processor sections of a decent receiver, plus a premium for the fact that it is not the type of component that is in hot demand. Say, $500.
What if I forget the DVD part, do that seperately and get a Surround Sound Processor. Any recommendations under $500?
I really just want to do this without taking up any more space on my rack. The good receivers are, like, 8" high.
HTITB...man, that's cold...Any decent ones? Or small, low power receivers with level-adjusted preamp outputs for 6 channels.
You can pick up a used Meridian 565 (though not with the Z3 7.1 mod) for sub $600
You didn't specify a price range, but a decent MC SACD/DVD player with volume control would do nicely; I don't know of any.I did try to get rid of the Preamp/processor with a pure analog MC preamp. Alas, I couldn't find an inexpensive one which accepted digital audio inputs. I opted for a MC analog 4x2 preamp combined with Universal player and kept my aging preamp/processor for DD/DTS decoding of TV broadcast sources; heck I still use it for DVD player DD/DTS decoding, at least until the time when/if I figure out the Universal's DD/DTS decoding is better than the pre/pro's DD/DTS decoding.
