Have you considered a "phantom" center channel? After a year of using a CC-3 with my four 1.6's (and five years using a CC-1 before that) I started experimenting and now use a phantom center 100% of the time. Front pans are improved, dialog is locked on the screen more tightly, and the entire sytem sounds less "mechanical". Try it, you'll like it (and also eliminate your problem).
Follow Ups:
As the new owner of some MMGs, I tried the phantom center setup, but the whole family would basically have to sit in my lap to get the proper soundstage. Do the 1.6s improve on this that much?Don't get me wrong, I"m keeping the maggies. But I went with a box system for HT because of the dispersion issues.
I do live alone and have my easy chair planted in the center at an optimum distance from the screen. When I have vistors no one has complained of off center voices or center sounds but if they did the CC-3 is still there and can be electronicly connected vis the pre-pro's remote. I alos own MMG's and the 1.6 does have a wider dispersion area than the smaller Maggies.
