finally pulled the trigger this past week and bought the sony 42" A10 new model. i'm a happy camper. for $1600 i got a tv with a very impressive picture. i viewed it along side several other choices including a mitsubishi dlp that sold for a thousand more. i'm not seeing any of the complaints about lcd's in this set. black levels are great. nice resolution. the dlp didn't beat it that i could see. shadow detail is good. brightness is a high point with the sonys, probably due to the new dynamic iris on this set. i haven't done anything extraordinary to dial it all in. just routine picture adjusts. also, still have not run it with an hdtv input, altho i saw it in the store. i have good selection of over the air hdtv in town, so i just gotta hook up the right antenna (uhf, i think).anyhow, if you're in the market for bigass tv and thought you had to spend over $2K, you definitely do not. can't wait to get the hd signal in, and in a few months, maybe that new blu ray with hdmi cable.. just using component so far. that's my story. oh, did i mention, with this new model, sony got the speakers off the 'wings' so the form factor is much narrower. really clean looking.

are you referring to the KDF-E42A10 LCD model number?
like it more and more every day. now, if the bulb just lasts awhile..
We bought a new 60" Sony GW last July. We turned down the brightness a little bit. Did the usual few tweaks and the image is great for us. I wonder if turning down the brightness a little will extend bulb life? These sets come hot out of the box so people oooh and ahhh at the images on the show room floor. We went to Pro image and adjusted some basic settings. These sets all can benefit from a professional ISF calibration. That is for the future after Xmas bills. Good luck with your new Sony! John
and that it won't save bulb to turn down brightness, but i can't verify that's the case. picked that up over at avsforum.com on the sony A10 thread. enjoy!
