as I understand it, is if you have a HD tuner in your TV, you can do without the satelite box(less clutter).

If you get satellite HD like Dish or Direct- you can NOT use the tv tuner in place of the satellite box. They are two different formats plus the satellite box is required to DECODE the signal.Over the air HD is not great unless you live close to stations

The cablecard won't work with satelite? I thought it would-my bad.

If you are willing to go with Cable, not satelite, more TV's are coming out with CableCard slots. Instead of using a separate cable box, you get the cablecard from your cable company and pop it into the TV, which will decode all the cable channels. These TVs, like the Sony in the link, usually also has a separate over-the-air HD tuner inside as well.
