In Reply to: Best speed to burn DVD backups? posted by Bosk on October 14, 2005 at 23:56:09:
To prevent data errors, I burn at the slower of half the rated speed of the burner or half the rated speed of the DVD discs. Burning at max speed assumes that everything in the burning chain is perfect: the blank discs, the burner, and the data stream from the hard drive. Virus scans, updates, or even the changing of the computer's clock can affect the integrity of the data stream.
