the rule of thumb i read on Etown.com by russ hershelmen
The right screen size: Sit in your regular listening chair. Measure the distance from your eye to the front of your TV screen. Got it? Now divide that number in half. (Example: viewing distance: 10 feet. Half of 10 feet = 5 feet). All set? Surprise! If you truly want an immersive home theater experience, the number you're looking at (half the seating distance) should be the diagonal measurement of your TV screen. You say it isn't? Time to get a bigger screen! The whole story gave some interesting facts. by the way i was looking at a wega 36 xbr, and a toshbia 36 inch dvtv hooked to a progresive scan dvd blew the sony picture away. the 36 inch wega will not do progresive scan. wait for the new wega or get digital. you can sit as close as you want
