DVD/VCR -> TV via component video (Y/Pb/Pr)
DirectTV -> TV via SVHS cable
DirectTV -> DVD/VCR via composite (AV1 in)The last connection lets you record your DirecTV shows on your VCR or DVD.
Switch between SVHS and component video on your TV to choose between watching DirecTV and your VCR/DVD.
If your cables are only a couple feet and they work OK now, don't worry about getting new ones. If you do buy new cables, avoid Monster, they are overpriced.
