playing w/my 1st home theatre set-upsmall media room with a viewing area of 11' wide and 9' deep
couch and chairs are along 11' wall
27" jvc l'art flat screen and stand is opposite couch.
when seated on the couch there is just 6.5' to the screen.
i was going to purchase the well reviewed pioneer vsx-815k as my reviewer and use either the toshiba 3960 or panasonic s32 as the dvd player.
i am inheriting a pair of klipsch kg2.2 monitor speakers that i was going to use as rears. the related klipsch kg2.2v would be the center speaker.
my questions/issues:
if i bring in my beloved klipsch kg4s as my front speakers, do i need a subwoofer?
if i need a sub, do i go powered? how do i "match" the sub to the kg4s? what sub would work well with such a modest set-up?
if i don't use the kg4s as fronts (too big, don't sound right) perhaps i could use the kg2.2s as fronts and bring a pair of small pinnacle monitors as the rears. then again, i am faced with the issue of to sub or not and if so, which one?
do i sound confused?
i hope not.
"only" doing all of this because my friend is giving me the klipsch kg2.2 pair and the kg2.2v center. since i always liked the kg4s, i was hoping to put together a fun ht system for the kids and wife to watch some family netflix.
any and all thoughst would be appreciated
be well

ps-if all of this is poppycock, what would u do in a narrow room as described w/a say...$500 budget? thanks-r
Follow Ups:
Hi, as for the KG4's not going deep enough, the only way to realise that would be, to borrow a sub and hear what it does in the room. However, I do think they are a good choice as mains.
The addition of a powered sub will also free the main amp of LF reproduction, and should improve mid-bass/range.
Maybe enjoy what you have for the time being, and when a deal comes along on a decent used sub, go for it.
Hi: Well given that most Klipsch speakers don't go "deep" (not much under about 35 hz) then a subwoofer is needed if you want the max impact of action movies. Most subs are now powered & Klipsch makes a number of subs, one should fit your needs. I would think smaller (say 10") should work in your room.Speaker placement is often an issue, as is room acoustics. If the room is too live or "dead" there are likely to be problems. But what kind of source are you using? A cheap dvd player will only make things worse.
my source would be the toshiba 3950. though cheap in price, i had read only decent reviews for both its audio and video prowess.are there other modestly priced players that u could suggest that might match well w/the pioneer vsx-815k receiver and the klipsch speaker set-up as described up top?
thanks in advance for sharing you thoughts
be well

I think the unit is OK. My personal exprience has been that the better the source the better the end result. For example, the Cambridge DVD player is a nice sounding unit & picture is good as well. It is more money than the Toshiba.BUT, you may be happy with the setup & not wish to spend more. I would say, setup what you have, see how it works & then look for ways to improve you are dissatified.
in a makeshift ht set-up utlizing a long loved kg4 for fronts, a pair of kg2.2 for rears and a kg2.2v for a center speaker, will these pairings "make beautiful music" or just be too horny?
will i need a subwoofer to supplement the kg4s?
if so, any thoughts for a narrow viewing area?
thanks
