With the newer 720 or 1080 native resolution sets, distance is not a problem unless you are sitting within 3 feet of the set. Buy a big DLP rear projector and ease their eyes.

My parents don't want a tv too bulky that would stick out too far into the room. That's why i thought a plasma would be better. It's hard enough for them to even consider a new tv. They are old fashioned and really don't like new tvs because they look too modern! They like the tvs from the old days with the wood cabinets.
DLP rear projectors have only a 14 to 18" depth. Not as thin as a plasma, but thinner than a conventional set.
