In my current situation, my HT is in my living room, and I want to use only my L&R front speakers, along with a subwoofer. Has anyone experienced good HT with this setup ? This will also allow me to replace my HT pre-pro with a good analong preamplifier since my DVD player decodes DD and DTS. Any comments on my planned setup ?

I've been doing that for a few years now. It works fine. Most DVD players do a good job of mixing the sound down to 2 channels.
Jack
Should work fine. Just run the red and white analog outputs to the aux or CD imputs of your receiver. You can hook up the 2 channel speakers as Set A on the receiver and the Sub as set B Then A+B gets you both. Or you can hook the Sub as set A and then connect the 2 channel speakers from the Sub.You don't need any decoders to get 2.1 from a standard DVD
My 2.1 setup uses a 1971 JVC receiver as the main power.
I do not recommend this suggestion as some AVRs put the A and B loads in series when both are selected and some introduce an impedance-adjusting resistor. You are better off running the sub from the dedicated sub output on the system (if you have such). If not and you must use speaker-level connections, connect all to the same sets of terminals or run the main L/R through the sub's network.
It would easier to give better advice if you posted the specific amp, speakers and sub you are using.
I was thinking of a situation with an older stereo amp w/o a sub terminal. If the amp has a sub output by all means use it.
Here is my current equipment: SF Auditors for L&R speakers, SF sub, and currently Krell HTS7.1 as my processor, which I am replacing/supplementing (not sure yet) with the Nagra Pll.
won't the Krell do bass management and feed the sub independantly?
The amp is on old 5 channel Carver 505x. Yes, the Krell does have bass management, and at the moment it is doing just that. My point was, since I have only 2 channels, can I not replace the Krell HTS with a good 2 channel analog preamp, and feed the sub line level signals from the analog preamp ? I realize that my speakers will be run full range, but as per Sumiko, I can run the Auditor's full range, and the speakers should be fine.
Yup. As suggested elsewhere.
