At work I have a Panny DVD burner that does + or - R's. At home I have a Samsung DVD-R120 that does -R's. I have a bunch of _R's at my disposal. The issue at hand is that while I can get completed dvd-r's to read on a Zenith (or whomever makes it for them), a Sony NS500V, and of course the players that made them, but I can't get them to read on the Toshiba.
Should I have known that? I didn't think the Tosh was that old.. is there a firmware upgrade? I can only make +R's at work and I shouldn't do that there..

Try recording the dvd at speed 1x. This solved all problems like yours for me. My Apple can record a dvd in 3 mins. Sometimes I have slow this powerhaus down.

Good advice if burning from a computer, but it also won't read them when burned from a Samsung DVD Recorder, which I assume burns much slower?I'll try to find the setting for burn speed on the mac's at work.
Some manufacturers offer firmware updates that allow their players to read other formats and/or read burned discs better. I don't know if Toshiba offers such a firmware update for your player. According to their site, DVD-R discs should play fine (with a few exceptions).DVD-R (see Key Features and Detailed Specs )

You might try a different brand of media to see if that helps. Also, make sure your Samsung DVD Recorder has the latest firmware (if they have any updates).
