I'm looking for a DVD changer. Yes, I know that Hi Def DVD is "just around the corner", but to me that means prices are probably right for standard def DVD players.Anyway, I've looked at one by Sony that has HMDI which holds 400 disks and has lots of nice features (such as SACD), but it the Sony's don't seem to allow for daisy chaining.
What do you all like in mega DVD changers these days?
Follow Ups:
What I have is a 5-disc SACD/DVD changer, plus I'm building an inexpensive PC setup for CD storage/playback.I don't own that many SACD and we rent most of our DVDs. But IMO, movie playback requires so much more "hands-on" setup than music, throwing the disc in the machine is just one more step. Plus, unlike music, it's not like I'm picking/playing the same movie tracks repeatedly on a weekly basis.
When I upgrade my DVD player, I plan on going for one with the highest video performance, reguardless of disc capacity.
I've been planning to buy a megachanger too. There are only two real choices; the Sony cx-995 400-disk changer, and the Pioneer F-727 301-disk changer. Sony has serious problems with disk data management (critical with a high capacity changer) but has 1080i scaling and an HDMI output. The Pioneer's video processing is obsolescent with no progressive scan or upsampling and no digital video out. The user reviews I've read give the Pioneer better grades for reliablity and ease of use. The Pioneer allows daisy-chaining but only with S-video cable. I'll probably get the Pioneer because my Pioneer Elite TV converts the image to 1080i.I'm baffled that there aren't more megachangers models available. Disk storage space and handling is a major problem for many people and a megachanger is a fantastic solution.
I am starting to research media managers, such as the Escient Fireball line. Seems like a good solution, as it can download title info, pictures, and daisy chain multiple Sony mega changers. A bit expensive, but perhaps worth it.
I just record them to a LaCie 2TB storage unit. You can daisy-chain up to 64 of these together! They use either FW800, FW400 or USB 2.0 (which will actually allow recording AND playback at the same time)!
I have no urge to add a computer, remote interfaces, and separate storage unit into the mix for my rather modest CD and movie collection. 300 disk capacity is plenty for me.
