thanks
If you can find one for $500 (and you should be able to come close on my simon) you cannot beat the Toshiba SD5109. Progressive Scan, dual disc, easy to use, superb in my experience.
I tried quite a few DVD players before settling on one. I really didn't see much of a difference between the least expensive Sony and the one that i have (Sony DVP-650P 5 disc changer ) in terms of picture quality.
I ended up with this one as it was a matter of space and convenience. It plays both CD's and DVD's in my HT system.I looked at several Sony's, a Pioneer, a Phillip's and the Toshiba 4109. The Sony's gave me the most consistent performance out of the bunch. The Toshiba 4109 looked quite poor compared to a $270 ( from Best Buy ) Sony. I know that the 5109 is the "next generation" and is supposedly much improved, but it would HAVE to be to keep up with the other models that i compared it against.
Your best bet is to find a model that interests you and try it out at home. MAKE SURE that it has the jacks that you need, both now and for future use. I would recommend one that has both S-Video AND component level video out. Depending on what you have hooked up to your TV and the jacks that it offers, it is best to have them both "just in case".
