I read in the recent Consumer Reports that they find plasma sets are as reliable as CRTs but that RPTVs are much less so and microdisplays more troublesome still. I am torn between a 50" Panasonic Plasma and the Sony KDS-R50XBR1. I have read a number of posts that make it appear the Sony does indeed have some issues with QC. Anyone have more data on this? Checking them out in the stores the Panasonic looks sharp but somehow false and movement does not look too smooth. The Sony looked great in one shop but very soft in the center in another. Of course, they are usually set to torch mode in showrooms. Thanks.

Except for HomeTheaterSpot (at times), you will probably not find more information re: display technology on the web than AVS Forum. I would suggest that, if you're going to invest a good deal of money in any display technology, you do plenty of research and ask questions. You don't want to put out major $ on a display and later find out that it doesn't do what you thought it did or perform to your expectations.
