Or is it just me?My wife had a bug up her ass to get Direct Tv and get rid of cable. We had it installed but I think the picture is poor. Some Colors are over saturated, scin tones look blocky. Shading is poor. Etc.
Does anyone like thier Direct TV?
Follow Ups:
I evaluated Direct TV and decided to stay with my local cable provider. PQ from Direct TV was definitely inferior.
In addition, most people report that HD "off the air" looks better than cable or DirectTV.We may see a rebirth of anntennas on top of houses. I'm considering it.
Also, my cable company charges $20 extra per HDTV. $10 for digital and $10 for HD. As soon as I get my second HDTV, I may raise an antenna.
The only thing stopping me is that I like HBO HD, ESPN HD, and the two Independent HD channels that I can't get off the air.
Not much text here
In the last year or two, DTV signal has detoriated on most of its channels, esp. Sci-fi, ESPN, two channels I frequently watch. The premium channels(I had HBO) still looked good though...couple months ago I switched to Cable and I think the Cable signals look better, deeper colors, less compression etc. I was a DTV customer for about 4years.
Everyone loves to hate Time Warner but IMO the picture is far superior to DirectTV. I was with Direct TV for eight years before switching back.
...I only had analog cable previously.
The reception is terrific, and the Hi Def ..stunning.
Yeah, thats what I have, Digital cable(iO)and was able to coax a HD box from the installer even though I don't have a HD TV...damn, the HD channels look fantastic on my regular 27" tube Panny. Now I need to get a plasma..
..got a floor model 34 " Sony for $ 965.00 , plus $ 45.00 for delivery ( well worth it ) my wife said the guys complained when they had to lug it downstairs. The HD is really , really
- good. Almost a fight last night between my sons NCAA finals vs 24 !
Upstairs, my Mitsubishi 32 " CRT ( 8 years old ) has new life with digital box. Even the other TV's just on the line without digital box have an improved picture, as the guy installed an in line amp ( boost ).
we're big soccer fans , so the Fox Soccer channel and the upcoming World Cup ( many games in HD ) makes the $ 69.00 per month well worth it.
Last year I was all set on the Sony 34 Superfine pitch as a replacement/upgrade, but for space constraits I may need to got the plasma route. And I also wish to see the World Cup on a bigger screen, I am a football fan too. Which channel will be showing the matches in HD? Is there a FSC-HD? DOn't think I have that channel.
All the games are on either ESPN, ESPN 2 , or ABC. My cable system has ESPN - HD , ESPN- HD , so the only games not on HD are the ABC.Each converter box has a built in DVR, so I will be able to record those games that I can't see live.
There isn't any FSC-HD , and that's a shame. Maybe in the future.
I went the Sony route because I put the TV downstairs , where it can fit without that much of being in the way. I would love to have a bigger screen , but I just can't afford it.
I have one kid in College, one going next year, and I live in probally the highest taxed state in the country, Connecticut.
But I am very happy with the Sony. I bought a Onkyo receiver, and Polk speakers that were bundled as a package , and the sound is decent. I actually have much better sound upstairs with my Mitsubishi, but I don't have the room up there for the Sony.
I only have a small ranch, my " starter home " that will most likely end up being my " retirement home " !
Hah...isn't CT also one of the highest per capita income states? Hey at least you got a home you can call yours.
Cablevision(my provider) has a decent amount of the HD channels for no extra charge, there are a few HD versions of sports network like FOX sportsHD, ESPN-HD, MSGHD and a couple others, but have noticed that only ESPN2 carry the 'other' sports that I normally watch, tennis, football(soccer)...but since I switched to Cable from DTV, I love the FSC for all the time football.
I would expect ESPN to only carry the USA matches. But we will see.
I too have a daughter going off to college later this year...I am hoping she gets a good scholarship offer. Its crazy what it costs now to educate a kid over 3-4years.Back to the Sony: I saw the 30" superfine pitch being sold now for less than 800$, and I am really tempted to just go with that and save a couple grand for now vs. getting that 42"NEC plasma I was attracted to...decisions decisions...lol
I really like all the games.
Yeah, CT is a high income state, but I'm in the average category.
CT has many rich towns, poor cities, and a some middle class areas.
I live in amiddle class town. Pretty nice , actually.Yeah I own my house, but I owe more than I bought it for ( 20 years ago ) , but that amount is still 1/2 the present selling price.
I just watched King Kong the other night on the Sony. I have a Toshiba DVD I bought as a closeout for $ 50.00. Hooked up to a 65 watt Onkyo receiver, and some polks . Sub, and surrounds.
The entire system costs around 1700, including cables.I just love the picture on the Sony. The sound is okay, not audiophile, but good enough for movies.
