Hi -My partner brought home Memoirs of a Geisha tonight - a two disc set from Sony. I have a Cal Audio DVD 2500 - certainly not SOTA but not all that long in the tooth either - or is it?
At any rate, Disc 1 with the movie did not register with the player - in fact after whirring for awhile it reported "no disc". Disc 2 with the 'extra' features of course worked perfectly...
Wassup?
Is this an example of the Sony copyright protection I have been reading about? Is there a work around for an older player?
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this problem - what can I say, seems pretty short-sighted to me...
Follow Ups:
I have no less than 4 DVD players. Two for television and two on computers. When a disc does not work on one, I often try it on another player to see if the disc is at fault.
Also, I'm a Netflix subscriber. I get discs that can't play probably 5 or 6 times a year. Usually, just soap and water will make them playable. When this doesn't work, there typically is a noticable scratch on the DVD.
