Interesting....
Follow Ups:
"To summarize: There are no fast refresh (30Hz or 60Hz) 1080p production or transmission formats in use, nor are there any looming in the near future — even on the new HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats."My understanding is that Blu-Ray will be a fast refresh 1080p signal.
Yes, its true there will probably never be 1080p broadcasts, due to bandwidth issues. Its also true that *some* of the "1080p" TVs throw away alot of the signal when proccessing, but not all of the sets do. I know the Sony LCOS and HP DLPs do not throw away any of the info. What the author, and apparently you, fail to realise, is that some of the 1080p TVs have really good pictures. Upsampling/deinterlacing 480i signal to 1080p has a *huge* effect on the picture. While its not as good as a good 1080i signal, it can still be surprisingly good. IMO, some of the 1080p TVs have the best pctures out there, regardless of source-that's the reason to buy a 1080p TV.

2. I made no comment about the article other than to post the link and remark that the article was "interesting."
Hi Jack,You mention that the Sony SXRD sets don't toss out info, do you have any knowledge of how the JVC 1080p sets process the info.
Now I'm all concerned my D-ILA set is converted my 1080i signal through HDMI to 540p since this guy says 1080p is impossible right now.
I wanted to check them out when I was shopping, but they were released later than originally planned.

It looks great. Better black levels than I anticipated. Hi-def looks fantastic. The only gripes I have is standard def TV looks TERRIBLE and there are only 2 HDMI inputs.I thought the Sony SXRD's where a tad better picture wise but took the 61" JVC because we got a killer deal on one.
I think the JVC does fine. Some of the DLP TVs, tend to loose some of the signal when proccessing. The Brillian LCOS too IIRC.
