In Reply to: Slight speaker hum when TV is powered on....................... posted by Cut-Throat on May 31, 2006 at 13:10:31:
Are there any wires running parralel to each other that maybe shouldn't be? Try playing around with the wiring while it's all on and see if you still get the sound, and if so if it changes while moving.

Make sure that as much as possible they cross at 90° (and stil keep them away from eachother if possible). If they must run parralel, at minimum keep the power cords away at least a few inches from anything else.
Well, it would have been almost impossible to fool with the existing romex without a lot of work. So what I came up with is simply plugging the TV into an outlet that is hooked into my main panel. And the hum disappeared. The problem may lie in that the romex to the audio/video gear is running parallel for about 15 feet from the sub-panel. The only noise producer seems to be the new TV - The old TV did not do it. I may just live with the slight hum. I measured the hum at the throat of my Horn and it only measures around 45 db, so I may not let it bother me. Most of time when I'm listening to the stereo the TV is off anyway.
Thanks for your help!

I floated the grounds on my amplifiers with a cheater plug and all of the hum is elminated. Dead quiet! So, ground loops are confusing to me. I have tried removing the antenna connection from the TV, but the hum is still there. So the 8 circuits all going to the same common ground in the sub-panel is producing a ground loop.
I'm confused and know that a cheater plug is not a 'solution', but I don't know what else to try.
