5 super ones (6 1/2 inch driver) and a powered sub or 2 floor standing VT 1.2 fronts (2 smaller drivers, passive woofer) + 3 VS1.2 and no sub. Room 14 x 22 mated with a denon 2800, mitsubishi 40 inch rptv.
I would go for the 5 Super Ones and a sub. This way you can use a decent receiver (Denon, Onkyo, and NAD work well) to drive them all, whereas the VT-1.2s need a flagship receiver or a lower powered separate amp. Also, you won't get much information below 35hz with the VT-1.2. Regarding Super Zeros, these are not a good choice for HT, as they only go down to 100hz, and even then, the 4.5" woofer is straining at normal HT levels. Good luck!
if you do go with small speakers I don't see the need to get superones (they do have lower extension) since more than likely your receiver has a low pass cutoff of around 80hz. This means you would be wasting any low end extension the superone has over the superzeros. You could get 3 superzeros for the front (using the small speaker setting and low pass cutoff on the receiver means you won't be getting anything to the front 3 speakers below 80hz anyway) and 2 superones for the rear (run them large to take advantage of the lower extension). Hope this helps. Let me know if I totally confused you.
I have the VT1.2's for fronts, the VS2a Center and VS1.2a's for rear and it is an excellent setup. You will need at LEAST these for your big room. I'd go that route but I hope you can test drive the setup with your receiver FIRST. I am not sure if the 2800 has enough juice for the setup. I DO recall a review a year or so ago that used the Denon 3200 to drive the NHT VT2's and it said it did a decent job, so maybe you will be fine. However I DO see a 2 channel amp and a sub in your future but you'd be better off with the towers in the long run. I found a good price on the VT2's ($1099) as they are being discontinued, thats really the right speaker for your size room, IMHO. (I didn't buy the VT2's,,,,WAF)
.
I would go with the full range in front. I have heard the Super One and owed a pair of the original Ones. They just don't have much below 100Hz. A sub never integrates properly in my mind.
