In Reply to: 720 P & 1080 i are essentially the same- 1080 P is something else altogether. posted by EdM on June 20, 2006 at 13:45:24:
Only small 32 inch or less LCD ones. Even the plasmas and projectors only have native resolution supporting 720p and no more. Shame really. Everything is £ for $ compared to USA as well so we are improverished!
Follow Ups:
If a TV can do 720P it can do 1080i.1080P is the one you can't do yet- only Mitsubishi has a 1080P DLP TV so far as I know.
All of the plasmas and projectors here have around 720 pixel rows on their panels. They'll show 720p naturally, but compress 1080i. They will accept 1080i but do not alternately put the frames down the 720 rows, they have to reprocess, losing resolution.
