Interesting article at www.audioholics. FWIW. I think he makes several/many valid points, though I want Hi Def video to succeeed.townsend
Follow Ups:
I don't know if HD-DVD, Blu Ray, or something else will prevail, but I'm convinced something will.In three years, HD players will be selling for $200.
But this time, the industry will stop selling DVDs and give consumers, no choice.
Pioneer has already announced that there's no profit in DVD players so they're discontinuing manufacturing all Pioneer DVD players.
Most of what audioholics writes can be safely ignored.
I'm not convinced either format will replace DVDs, but I wouldn't call them failures at this point(at least not HD DVD). I suspect one if not both formats will be around for quite a while, as niche products.

...but I can understand the caution and frustration with the current hi def video roll-outs - reminds me of the bad old days of VHS vs BETA wars so very long, long ago.I'm betting high resolution DVD (in whatever incarnation, who knows)will at least be more successful than SACD - there's way more folks with big screen teevees, home theaters and projectors than there are audio-geeks with hi-rez SACD players.
Not that it would take much.
I agree it's not a quantum leap, but it sure looks a lot better than regular old DVD to me.
