This was my point about the different versions when I asked you the question below (thanks for your excellent technical response, by the way). HDMI products are designed to work with each other seamlessly. The different/updated versions of HDMI are backward compatible. What this means is that a product with v1.0 will work with a product with v1.1 or v1.2 without a problem. The only catch is that when using these two products together you will be limited to the capabilities of the lower version.

Why are there problems existing with HDMI products? It's because manufacturers have implemented HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, the copy protection system) in a rather "un" seamless way. It's the HDCP incompatibilities, which most often can be attributed to polling discrepancies, that are screwing things up -- not HDMI.
