I have a two channel integrated amp I am very pleased with and would like to use it in a Home Theater set-up. What type of gear would allow me to use this in a multi channel, surround set up? Pardon my ignorance on this but HT is new to me. Any specific recommendations (if this can even be done) that would match with my Musical Fidelity A300 integrated dual mono amp would be appreciated. Thanks

BTW, have you tried watching your TV with just 2 channel sound? In my bedroom, I have 40 inch LCD and 2 channel sound system (Quad 99 pre and amp, a pair of Spendor s3/5 speakers and older Velodyne servo sub). I just hook up the HD cable box and dvd player directly to the preamp.
Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but I never find myself longing for surround speakers.
Hi,
I got an expensive processor, and a bunch of speakers. But
surround sound had problems for me. AMong others, the room was a bit small for it.So I eventually dumped it. I run my cable box and dvd player straight into the stereo preamp now. If you don't have a lot of inputs (like Tivo)
it's all you need.
If the integrated amp has an extra auxiliary stereo input, you could get an inexpencive HT receiver, that has the proper decoding formats, pro-logic, DD and DTS, with L/R pre-outputs.Feed the receiver's preouts to your integrated amp, which in turn would drive the L/R speakers. Use the built-in amps of the receiver to drive the center, side and/or rear surround channels, along with the signal to the subwoofer/amp.
Feed the digital output of a DVD player into the receiver, all your other audiophile sources into the integrated amp. When setting up the channel calibration, mark the volume knob on the integrated amp for HT use.
It would be great if your amp's manufacturer offered a HT receiver with similar amplifier sonics. If not, you could use this rig until you decide whether you want to split the two systems up, upgrade amps, speakers (to a matched HT set), whatever.
Adcom used to make an "add on" processor which would provide (at that time) Pro Logic matrix surround using an additional amplifier. Maybe they have upgraded it to include the newer Dolby Digital and DTS surround codecs. Also there are probably other manufacturers who make a similar device. On the other hand, it might be simpler and cheaper to start from scratch and go with a multi channel receiver with all the 2006 bells and whistles.
I had a similar problem with HT setup in the past not wanting to discard my NAD silver series INT amp....
I wound up buying three Marantz M500 monoblocks to serve up the remaining channels... but then the issue of an HT decoder(this was prologic days) I bought a marantz decoder(model?)
It worked OK but I wound up leaving my 2 ch.for audio, selling the seperate gear & buying a Marantz HT receiver alleviating the hookup hassles, cable costs etc......
I believe that Adcom had a 3 channel amp/decoder maybe the 560? for this purpose..
There are some great HT receivers these days that really have got exc.sonics...
such as Adcom, Arcam,Cambridge audio.NAD,Marantz.......
Hope ths helps...
