  I don't know if it has that type of selection or not. It does have two digital and three analog inputs, which is why I was surprised that a faulty composite cord would have any effect on the analog VCR signal.

  The fact that the problem was intermittent seems to point against a switch problem, IMO.

    Yes, if it is intermittent, then it is likely a switch problem.

    Another idea, check all the cables for loose wire that are causing shorts. I had that happen to me once, blew out the tapedeck.

    In other words, check everything twice & then blame the equipment.

      I get kind of confused with my terminology. These were component video cables (not composite) that I replaced.

      I was using the heavy gauge Radio Shack ones, which are so tight that I have left the connector attached, while yanking out the cable in the back. Given the height difference between the amp and the TV, gravity, or a wandering cat could have partially separated one of the connections.

      Time will tell if the problem is truly solved. Thanks.

        Glad to hear things are working. There are lots more cables connecting things now & the chances for loose connections has grown by leaps & bounds. Given that everything vibrates/is moved/bumped/ gets dirty, checking connections is a major undertaking.

        Just because it worked before, does not mean that something has not come loose. I have found that out the hard way!
