New Samsung 60" HDTV with two HDMI inputs. New DirectTV service with an HDMI output on the satellite box. New Monster Cable (sorry) HDMI cable between the two. It sort of works on the 480i output, but on 720 or 1080 signals, it works for like 3 seconds and then blacks out entirely for the next 3 seconds. Then it works, then blacks out, ect. every 3 seconds. I tried every imaginable setting but can't seem to solve the problem. The component video cable seems to work just fine. Suggestions please?

You will find this on the setup menus on the Directv receiver. HDMI outputs all signals in 1080 mode then the TV scales as neccesary.I had the same problem when I went from a component connection to the HDMI.
BTW whats wrong with Monster cable? I think their video cables are pretty good. I just had my Samsung 56" DLP calibrated by the ISF..
Even with the Directv signal HD does look pretty damn good. When I get an out board Scaler it will be even better
Go to set-up on your HD box and then to one of the pics that has a tab that says "Resolution" thumb up to that tab and select it then make sure your 1080i box is checked.DirectTV boxes are very sensitive...BTW while your there check out the signal strength....FYI for some reason the HD box signal strength is weaker than the regular box signal strength.
Reg box =90%+
HD box signal strength = 70%sI asked the Direct TV rep, how in the hell can I get HD with such poor signal strength? Better signal = better picture
DirecTV is notorious for having problems with HDMI because of the copy protection flag which must pass through.
