I'm thinking about getting into home theatre. I already have two excellent stereos and do not need to rely on my home theatre for two channel sound reproduction. The room in which a home theatre would be placed is small -- a third floor room about 13' by 17', with a low cathedral ceiling (starting about 4' above the long wall, sloping up at 60 degrees to 8', flat for 4' or so and then sloping down again at 60 degrees to the 4' line on the other wall). Ear-deafening volumes are not needed -- I'd rather the money was spent on resolution than volume. There is a single 15 amp line powering the room.Imagine you had $7,500 to spend on products at current street prices, not MSRP. How would you blow the wad?

A great speaker choice and a relative bargain is Definitives Pro cinima series. Here is a link and a review: http://www.definitivetech.com/loudspeakers/procinema/procinema.htmlYour room is not too small for home theater. It will be fine. As for video. There are some some great projectors for under $2000 such as Optima HD72. If you have the wall space you can save a ton on a screen and instead go with Goo System paint. As long as you have a wall to use this is a great choice. You can have a GREAT prjector and screen for about $2500. There are tons of moderately prced HT revcievers for about $1000. My preference is Yamaha. I have the RV-x1400. Great performer and the auto set up EQ is a great feature. As long as your room is dark this is going to be an awsome set up. There is no reason when you have a dark dedicated HT room to not go with a projector. If you don't have the wall space you can get a high quality pull down screen for about $1500. You will be blown away with this set up for under your $7500. It will be around $7000 with a good screen. About $1000 less if you can use the Goo System.
It depends on where you place the equipment. If the sofa is against the back wall, then the rear speakers will have to be "dipoles" since you will be sitting beside them.I would get a good display as Late suggested, then a good DVD player & a good HT receiver, such as an Arcam or similar. That will leave money for the speakers. That choice is up to you.
Do some more reading about HT setups. Your room is workable, but as I said, setup is all important just like in two channel, but you now have twice as many speakers!
Hi,
you have an odd room there. Get a seperate line installed for the HT gear. First step is to pick a TV in the 42-50 inch range. Pick what you like. 50 inch plasma would be cool, of expensiveYour room is too small for surround sound, it would suck. Go stereo, but use speakers made for HT. We have chewed up most of the budget, so go with some small Paradigm speakers. A receiver would be nice for the bass management, but an integrated would sound better. Your call...
The sub world has bass boxes, entry level boxes, competent subs and earth movers. Hsu makes a nice basic sub for around $500. If you want better the top of the line Paradigm is killer but $1700 more or less.
DVD players... Denon makes a decent one for $500, a killer for $3500.
